"We don't create generic bathroom designs," explains Marina Phillips, partner at Kitchen Galleries in Santa Clara and a professional designer for over 12 years. "Each 5 x 8-foot bathroom we do will be different from the next because it reflects the homeowners' personal style." Marina recalls one homeowner whose bathroom desperately needed updating. The bathroom didn't match the style of the house or its Saratoga address. It had linoleum floors, and a washer and dryer shared the space. "I told them, 'Let's bring this space up to par with the rest of your home,'" Marina says. Kitchen Galleries first facilitated the conversion of the back porch into a laundry room, which allowed the space to be fully dedicated to the bathroom. Marina designed the room to include a stand-alone shower and Jacuzzi tub, as well as integrated, seamless, recycled quartz countertops. "Glass and quartz are extremely durable," she notes. "They don't scratch or react to the constant changes in heat and humidity in the bathroom."
Based on the homeowner's style, Marina develops a personalized tile design, which reflects the distinct, high-quality work that Kitchen Galleries provides. She combines different materials for unique texture, such as natural stone, porcelain, and glass tiles; or quartz countertops with travertine flooring. One lighthearted bathroom design included a tile and quartz mosaic of a turtle on the shower wall. Remodels can also include stacked crown moulding, under-cabinet and under-sink lighting, intricate tile designs, and quartz or glass inlays.
Marina adds warmth to her designs by incorporating lighting in opaque shades. She also includes functional touches, such as seamless ceramic countertops with integrated sinks. A seamless ceramic counter is beautiful, will last for years, and is also easy to clean and impervious to heat. "Your curling iron won't scorch the top," Marina notes.

"I love to use exotic veneers, which are recycled products," Marina notes. "Solid wood sounds great, but today's MDF is much more durable in the humid conditions of a bathroom and infinitely more Green."
